Created in 1965 by Art Bremmer, "Goatsie and Pepper" was a heartwarming family
strip about a little girl named Pepper and her irrepressible pet goat. Their
escapades usually involved an encounter with grumpy ol' Mr. Plugh, Goatsie's next
door neighbor. The goat would generally get the best of Plugh with a head butt to
the butt!
"Goatsie" ran in over 600 newspapers and enjoyed wide popularity until 1972 when
Bremmer was convicted of shooting Alabama Governor George Wallace during a presidential
campaign stop. United Features Syndicate cancelled the strip six years later.
In recent years, the internet has created a swell of new interest in Goatsie
(or "Goatse", as it is often abbreviated on the 'net). Each day thousands of
internet searches for Goatsie are logged by both old and new fans! Can the
internet can help fill the gaping void left by Goatsie's legacy? Only time will tell.
